Milk could be causing your acne

Although dairy is a vital part of diet and calcium production, not all dairy products contain these hormones. Certain types of yoghurt can still be consumed without having an impact on skin conditions.

The probiotics contained in yoghurt can actually be beneficial in limiting acne breakouts. These probiotics are thought to calm any inflammation and bacteria production in the skin. Dermatologists aren’t certain if cheese is also a cause of acne, but it might be a good idea to stop eating cheese for a while to see if your skin clears up.

More testing is needed

More clinical research is needed to establish the exact effects of dairy products on the skin. The best way to establish if dairy is a cause of acne is to visit a dermatologist and they can run tests.

If you are going to cut dairy products out of your diet, you need to find an alternative source of calcium and vitamin D. Vitamin C is also good for minimising acne, so eat more citrus fruit and consider drinking vitamin C fizzies every day. Consult your doctor beforehand to make sure you don’t consume too much vitamin C.

Antibiotics such as Tetralysal can be a great solution to acne that offers relief for up to six months. However, they aren’t always permanent solutions so consult a dermatologist before starting a course of antibiotics.
