You might have started vaping to quit smoking and while vaping has been proven to be far healthier than smoking, it’s still a crutch and one that isn’t easy to quit. In fact, it’s one that may be a lot harder to shake due to the fact that it’s easier to get hooked on puffing 24 hours a day. Here are a few ways to help you quit your addiction to nicotine and reduce the symptoms of withdrawal.
The first thing to do is to stop carrying your vape around with you everywhere you go like a pacifier. Notice when you’re puffing out of habit vs. when you’re puffing because you’re craving it. Don’t vape out of habit. As you begin to wean yourself off your e-cigarette, start by only taking one hit when you absolutely “need” it.
As your body starts becoming accustomed to less nicotine on a daily basis, start replacing those craving hits with something else. Eg. Brush your teeth, suck on a hard candy, drink sparkling water. Then distract yourself and stop dwelling on the craving. It’s best to keep as busy as possible during the process of quitting.
To effectively wean yourself off nicotine you need to set up a schedule. Start by drastically reducing the amount you vape for about a week, then move down to a lower milligram amount of nicotine until you’re at zero. If possible, switch out the flavor you’re used to vaping and go for one you don’t really enjoy.
Keep in mind that weaning yourself off nicotine in this way may take about a month. Going cold turkey reduces that time but the withdrawals are a lot more intense. The good news is that after 3 days the worst will be over. Quit in a way that works for you.
