If you feel like you are always ready to go right back to sleep the moment you hear your alarm clock every morning, then you may need some tips on how to wake up feeling invigorated. Here are a few tips to help you stop feeling like mornings are pure torture and how to make you feel more energized and ready for your day.
Get more sleep

This first tip is an obvious one. Sleep deprivation is always going to make you feel exhausted the next day. According to Dr Meeta Singh, a sleep specialist at Henry Ford Health System; “During sleep, there’s less blood flow to the brain. As you wake, consciousness returns immediately, but alertness lags behind.” The optimal amount of sleep to get per night is between seven and nine hours.
Practice good sleep habits
Avoid exercise right before bedtime. Maintain a dark, cool and tranquil atmosphere in your bedroom. Eliminate alcohol and caffeine several hours before bedtime and ideally turn off all electronics at least an hour before you plan to go to sleep. The blue light from phone screens has been proven to make your brain more active, so avoid using your phone before bed or, if it has this feature, turn on it’s blue light filter.
Establish a refreshing morning routine
As tempting as it is, do not hit that snooze button! This will only make you feel more tired. Depending on the season and weather, try to get some sunlight within a few minutes of waking up. It’s also helpful to consider some morning exercise or yoga, as this will help to energize you. Cool showers will also help to invigorate you in the morning – even splashing your face with cold water will help you wake up properly.
Fatigue is a classic symptom of dehydration and even a mild case can cause lethargy, cognitive impairment and irritability. Drink a glass of water to refresh your entire body first thing every morning. Caffeine actually causes more harm than good when it comes to feeling fully refreshed because it dehydrates you. Caffeine is a stimulant, so if you drink coffee anytime after lunch, it will make going to sleep harder for you.
Eat a healthy breakfast

Try to cut out the junk foods first thing in the morning. Ideally, your body needs proper fuel to get it and keep it going for the day. A combination of fatigue-fighting foods such as lean proteins, whole grains, nuts and low-sugar fruits is recommended for breakfast. Even a slice of toast with peanut butter or an egg is better than no breakfast at all. You need to give your body fuel to burn if you want to start the day feeling fresh.
